Juvenile Myositis Precision Medicine (JuMP) Biorepository
Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is a rheumatic disease in children that causes rash and muscle inflammation. JDM is very rare and affects about 3 in 1 million children each year. This study aims to advance knowledge regarding JDM and related pediatric autoimmune diseases.
What is the purpose of this study?
This study will help researchers learn more about how the immune system is altered in JDM and related autoimmune conditions compared to healthy volunteers, how physicians can better monitor the disease, and learn information that could lead to new treatments.
Study overview
Who can join?
You may be able to join if you...
- Have JDM
- Have a related autoimmune connective tissue disorder such as Lupus and similar conditions
- Have an autoimmune skin condition
OR
• Have no known autoimmune diseases, genetic disorders, immunodeficiency cancer, or history of organ/bone marrow transplant and is not taking medication
Frequently asked questions
What will participants be asked to do?
If you have JDM or a related autoimmune condition:
- You will be asked to give a blood sample about every 6 months. These samples will be collected alongside your routine clinical labs to minimize any additional pokes.
- You or your parent will be asked to fill out 2 short surveys during your visit with your Rheumatologist.
- If you have had previous skin biopsies collected, we will ask for your permission to obtain these biopsies for the research study.
- If you have active rashes, there is an option to also donate a small piece of skin.
- Our study team will review your medical record during clinic visits with your Rheumatologist.
If you are a healthy control volunteer:
- You will be asked to give a blood sample.
Will participants be paid?
Patients with JDM will be given a $20 gift card for each sample donation and $100 plus parking voucher for each skin biopsy donation. Healthy volunteers will be given $50 for a one-time blood sample collection.
